I recently came across this incredible comic strip by the talented Terry Blas, and I was immediately drawn into the world he created. Luckily, Terry is a friend of PopCultX, and with his permission, I’m excited to share it here with all of you. My hope is that you’ll feel the same connection and impact that I did.

For those unfamiliar with his work, Terry Blas is a renowned illustrator and writer, known for his viral webcomics You Say Latino and You Say Latinx (Vox.com). He has written comics for Ariana Grande, Steven Universe, and Rick and Morty, and his original graphic novels include Dead Weight: Murder at Camp Bloom (Oni Press), Hotel Dare (Kaboom!), and Lifetime Passes (Abrams/Surely Books, 2021). He also brought Marvel’s Mexican superhero, Reptil, to life in his own comic series.

Terry lives in Portland, Oregon, with his husband and their dog, Alfie. His art captures a love for people, animals, superheroes, and drag queens, and his storytelling continues to inspire.

A few years ago I made this comic about language, and Spanish, and how the United States doesn’t have an official language. I did this in response to all the videos that were coming out where some Karen goes nuts because she hears Spanish being spoken in public. I guess it’s more important now than ever. – Terry Blas
