This is Why I’ll Keep Fighting

This election season has left me with a profound sense of disappointment, not simply because of a loss but because of what the outcome represents. We find ourselves with a new leader who has consistently shown a disregard for truth, decency, and justice. It’s not only a reflection of the individual who won but a troubling reflection of those who stood by and supported this figure despite his well-documented failures of character and respect for the rule of law.

The challenges we face as a nation are daunting, especially when this new leadership seems intent on dividing us and returning to a more fractured, exclusionary vision of the past. In a time when we need to pull together, we are instead confronted with rhetoric and policies that only serve to drive us further apart. It’s hard to heal and to unite when the very forces dividing us are celebrated by the highest offices in our country.

Kamala Harris embodies the intelligence, empathy, and modern perspective that so many of us had hoped would lead us forward. Perhaps, however, her loss reflects a harsh reality: as a society, we still have work to do to live up to those qualities ourselves.

Though by outward appearance, I am a white male—one of the groups less likely to feel the immediate effects of this administration’s actions—I cannot turn a blind eye to the impact this will have on the lives of those I care about. Friends, family, and communities across the nation will be forced to endure the fallout. For them, I feel a deep responsibility, a duty to stand as both a shield and a voice.

If anything, this election has kindled in me a greater sense of purpose. I am committed, now more than ever, to protecting those around me, to defending the values that should matter to all of us. I am ready to stand up for integrity, to advocate for justice, and to do all I can to ensure a future that is fair and compassionate. This fight isn’t over—not by a long shot.
